My Thoughts on National Anthem Protest

image.pngBy now, if you haven’t heard about the Colin Kaepernick situation tthen you either don’t watch the news or live under a rock. The NFL player has taken a public stand against the injustices that minorities face by kneeling during the national anthem at football games.  Because everyone in the US has been conditioned since childhood to believe that the US is a “free” country the respects everyone and their beliefs, Kaepernick’s act obviously sparked outrage.

NKaepernick explains the reasoning behind the protest  “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color” he also adds that “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

I 110% stand with Kaepernick and if you don’t you’re a part of the problem. The 1st amendment give us Freedom of Speech so what is the problem in using this right to protest injustice? People complain about when black people riot in protest but Kaepernick kneels in protest and people are still mad?

This “outrage” goes to show how much times HASNT changed. Minorities are still being oppressed through the prison system and through police brutality. In the year of 2016 weve seen on atleast 2 black men being murdered ON CAMERA. Think about all the incidents that weren’t video taped.

Kaepernick is kneeling for Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Alton Sterling, and all the others who have lost their lives at the hands on the people who are supposed to “protect” us.

Even if you don’t agree on the reasoning of the protest, you have to respect it. Kaepernick is using Freedom of Speech which as a citizen of the US is his right!
