My Top Albums of 2016

2016 has been a great year for music. We’ve been blessed with albums from some of the most innovative rappers of all time. Here’s a list of my top 7 hip-hop albums of 2016.

7. TWENTY88-Big Sean & Jhene Aiko

Twenty88 is one of the most relatable projects of the year. Instead of songs about trapping and flexing, this ep captures the ups and down of relationships. It only has 8 songs, but they all embody what its like to be in a real relationship in 2016. The ep features THE K-Ci & JoJo so obviously it deserves a spot on my list.

6. Walking at Dawn- Roy Woods

This is album was literally my whole summer playlist! If you don’t know who Roy Woods is, you definitely should! Picture the weekend, Partynextdoor, and Tory Lanez all meshed together…and you get Roy Woods. He’s signed to Drakes label, OVO and is killing it! He even got to go on tour with Drake and Future. Walking at Dawn has a mixture of slow and dark tunes as well as upbeat island vibes.

5.Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World-Lil Uzi Vert

If you haven’t heard AT LEAST one song from this album, then you’re either living under a rock or have never been to a hype party. This album embodys what it means to be a “feel good” album. Every single song has either a catchy chorus or a phrase. The cover art, Album title, and even one of the songs is based off one of the best movies ever made…Scott Pilgram vs the World. This album is great for whenever you need an energy boost or just want to jam out!

4. Anit-Rihanna

Rihanna is great at everything she does…no explain needed.

3. Views-Drake

So just like everyone else, I thought this album was crap until a week after it dropped, I found myself singing literally every single song. Despite the annoyance of “One Dance” being played every 30 seconds on the radio, Views will never get old to me. It has a perfect mix of hype and sad, in your feelings songs.

2. The Life of Pablo-Kanye West

From the production to a freaking SIA AND FRANK OCEAN feature, everything about this album is dope. Kanye is the absolute GOAT.

1. Coloring Book-Chance the Rapper

This is HANDS DOWN the best album I’ve heard all year. Chance is one of the most creative artists like EVER. The whole vibe of this album is incredible. Everything is so positive, it literally makes you smile. Once I play one song from this album, I end up playing the whole thing cause its that great! Its extremely timeless and that’s why it deserves spot #1.

Honorable Mentions: Lemonade-Beyonce, Blonde-Frank Ocean, and Blank Face-ScHoolboy Q

Hope you enjoyed my list! Stay tuned for more!
